Main objectives

  • demonstrators to confirm activity of coatings in real life application areas
  • develop appropriate test methods for application areas
  • equipment demonstrator for coating of test panels - capability for scale up potential
  • materials demonstrator to confirm activity of coatings in real life application areas and develop appropriate test methods for these areas
  • road mapping: literature review to inform wider scientific and industrial communities about the application potential of biocidal coatings in real life environments

Development of appropriate test methods for application area

  • suppression of infection transfer via hands: overall level of contamination was reduced after 48 h by 80% compared to the controls
  • evaluation of the coatings against pathogenic bacteria of current importance in hospitals and in evaluating novel test methods

Literature review to inform wider scientific and industrial communities

  • literature survey on disinfection using photoactivated titanium dioxide will be made available online as part of a three-part published review
  • survey on antimicrobial surfaces and the role of surfaces in transmission of infection is underway
