Objectives

  • direct growth of aligned carbon nano-tubes (CNT) with very high aspect ratios on electrode surfaces: unique combination of properties, e.g. high specific conductivity + high ion mobility
  • candidate material for use in super-capacitors with high power density
  • main aim of the project: cost-efficient mass production for strongly expanding markets, e.g. as energy storage systems for electric cars

 

Main deliverables

  • equipment demonstrator; scalable processes for
    • continuous depositions of catalyst layer
    • continuous growth of aligned CNTs on electrodes
  • application demonstrator
    • CNT based supercap test cells for high power density
    • performance gain demonstration; e.g. power density, cycleability
