Objectives

  • biocidal surface structures with multi-action approaches for control of infection - clear potential for 3D nano-structures & need for new manufacturing approaches
  • combination of biocidal surface structures with 3D nano-structures will immobilise and deactivate pathogenic organisms
  • widespread applications with potentially wide and significant commercial and societal benefits
    • medical related areas (hospital environments)
    • hygiene in areas with high visitor traffic
    • food handling

 

Main deliverables

  • biocidal 3D nano-composites
  • equipment demonstrator for continuous coating of test panels; DBD-CVD based
  • materials demonstrator: proven biocidal activity against test strains; extension to selected pathogens (MRSE); active life = 5 years
  • application demonstrator to confirm activity in real life application areas (hospital, sanitary)
  • testing: development of “real life” test procedures
